Spiritual Meaning of Clouds in Dreams

Picture this:

You’re waking up from another deep slumber, only to find your mind overwhelmed by your dream of a cloud (or two) from the night before.

Maybe it was a dark and disturbing cloud, an abnormal one, or one you could touch and feel in your hands — either way, that dream may have more significance than you initially think, and it’s lingering in your mind for a reason.

It’s true: the power of dreams may seem like a hidden mystery if you’re not well-acquainted with the messages your subconscious mind is trying to communicate.

However, figuring out what your cloud-centered dream may mean is actually easier than you think even with no prior knowledge (and once you know that, I’ll show you how to put it to proper use).

Cloud Symbolism Basics 101

Before tapping into the  power your cloudy dream  can offer you, you’ll want to unpack the basics of deciphering cloud symbolism.

So, what do the bare basics of seeing a cloud really entail?

Typically, a cloud is a sign of protection, divine presence, faith, and strength.

This is because in many faiths, cultures, and religions, clouds have a special association with divinity itself from carrying gods.

In Chinese mythology, for example, clouds are often carrying deities, and dragons — a powerful symbol of transformation — are associated with this mysterious symbol.

But that isn’t all!

The biblical meaning of a cloud is especially telling, as Scripture will often reference God as sending clouds as a sign of divine presence.

(Think Noah and the ark, and how God sends a cloud and rainbow to demonstrate peace and protection).

In other words, most spiritual explanations of a cloud’s presence are immensely fortuitous and positive, even if you’re personally not a fan of seeing a cloudy day.

However, the implications of what your cloud dream may mean can still change depending on context and setting.

White Clouds, Blue Skies, & Clean Slates

If you’re part of the crew that dreamt up a white cloud, you’re not alone — this is one of the most common ways to see a cloud in your dreamscape.

You’re in for a treat: typically, seeing a white cloud takes on the good fortune of standard cloud symbolism.

  • If you saw a white cloud on its own, you are blessed with a veil of good luck and optimism.

  • If you saw a white cloud and clear, blue skies, you may be coming out of a difficult time and are now finding peace, comfort, and new beginnings.

In sum, a white cloud in most contexts brings forth an abundance of positivity and happiness … as long as you’re ready to take advantage of it!

Colorful Clouds: Lucky Cloud 9

Feeling confident you understand the basics of a cloud popping in to say hello in your dream, but confused by yours in particular due to a strange color appearance?

No need to fret, as meanings of colorful clouds simply often specify where you’ll find bountiful boons in your real life, and therefore where you should pay attention to.

Let’s dig in!

  • If you saw a pink cloud, bounty and beauty could be showing up in romance, your interpersonal connections, or even more prominently in your self-care and self-love.
  • If you saw a green cloud , divine blessings may be showing up in career, finances, prosperity, or personal healing.
  • If you saw a purple cloud, it’s important to trust your intuition at this time, as it’s likely to lead you to the outcomes you’re looking for.
  • If you saw a rainbow cloud, the good fortune and blessings are all the more bountiful and multiplied, headed your way with plenty of optimism and joy to boot.
All in all, there’s a reason for the term “cloud 9” — a colorful shade of cloud is often a delight to see in your dreams, foretelling gifts from the universe wherever you may go.

Good things are coming for you.

Walking on Clouds

Seeing a cloud in your dream is one thing, but what if you were literally walking amongst the clouds, frolicking across the sky, or something even more dreamlike and wonderful?

Rest assured, experiencing this in a dream is still a beautiful sign.

If you only reached out and touched a cloud, you may feel like your dreams are just within reach but not quite, as they still are slowly coming to fruition.

If you were walking on a cloud, the ability to achieve your goals and obtain the happiness and optimism you seek is in your own hands, and up to your own choices.

If you were flying in the clouds, you may feel like your regular life is restricting you from finding the treasures you want, knowing that you have more potential than what you presently have access to.

Dark Clouds, Thunder, & Storms Galore

Optimism and positivity aren’t the only things that clouds symbolize, however.

As unfortunate as it may be to find out, it’s true that the uplifting blessings that a cloud typically signals can be damper by more unsavory settings.

  • If you saw a dark cloud , you may be feeling confused and overwhelmed in your regular life.
  • If you saw a dark cloud and rainy, stormy weather, you could be experiencing times of difficulty that don’t seem to be letting up.
  • If you saw thunder and lightning, times of change and transformation are underway, or coming forth very soon into your life.
  • If you saw burning clouds or an unnatural disaster, you may feel as though the changes occuring in your life are unprecedented and have no clue as to how to fix a troubling situation.

In other words, because clouds are often “divine messengers,” seeing them in a less exciting context can be a warning or acknowledgment of difficulties you’re undergoing.

However, changes and transformations are not always a bad thing, and seeing a dark cloud shouldn’t feel like gloom and doom.

There is always a way to work this powerful message to your advantage!

What To Do With Your Dream?

By now, you’ve unpacked the core meaning behind your dream, now able to decipher its once-elusive message.
You could stop there, but what if I told you there’s more to be done with that newfound knowledge?

While the methods you wish to employ to use the power of your dream are ultimately up to your discretion, the following dream strategies are tried and true methods to take your cloud dream one step further.

  1. Art & Dream Journaling

One of the best things you can do for yourself to take advantage of your dreamscapes is to dedicate one journal just to your dreams.

Alternatively, you can create art, music, or visual representations of the dreams you encounter in order to bring them to life.

The point of this exercise is to strengthen dream recall, as well as more fully bring to mind the message of your dream from the night before so that you can put its message to real life action.

  2. Cloud Meditation

Taking your dream into the real world to access all of its glory can get all the more literal in simple meditative exercises.

Even if you’re hesitant, try your hand at a cloud-focused meditation and see what happens in the weeks that follow.

When focusing your subconscious mind (on the symbolism in your dreams) in conscious life, you call in its messaging, wisdom, and insight much more easily (and therefore its blessings as well)!

  3. Lucid Dreaming & Beyond

While the first two methods are accessible to anyone and everyone, lucid dreaming is a more advanced technique to understanding your dreamscape.

If you’re new to the lucid dreaming scene, know that the first two techniques listed will help you cultivate the awareness necessary in order to get here.

But when it comes to activating some of the boons behind your cloud dreams, sometimes one of the best ways to unveil that mystery is to be cognizant that you’re dreaming when you are.

This way, you can directly interrogate the dream and ask the divine messengers directly what they’re trying to say and how you can take advantage of their guidance.

It may seem far out of reach right now, but with time, dedication, and practice, this is one of my most effective, tried and true methods of working with a mysterious dream.

Dream On & Dream Big

Are you ready to access the wonder that the clouds have to offer you?

Whether you’re a newbie to unlocking the power of your dreams or a cloud dream is just one of many in the vast sea of your divine messages, getting to the bottom of what your dream means can still feel like a daunting task.

But with the right strategies and an open mind, you may find that there is even a prophetic or magical property to what your dreams are trying to communicate to you.

The subconscious mind is more powerful than you think — embrace the possibilities of your own intuition, remain optimistic towards the guidance of your dreams, and know that identifying a cloud is only the first step to some great potential.
